Until we came along, team building and the word “lame” were closely connected. Faced with the news that such an activity had been scheduled at their workplace, many employees would roll their eyes and think about calling in “sick” that day.
We’re too modest to say we changed the entire world of team building when we opened for business. But we like to think we’ve made it much more (serious) fun and highly worthwhile. It’s important we do so because team building, when done properly, is one of the best investments you can make in your team and your company as a whole.
Our team building activities build trust, reduce conflict, promote communication, and increase collaboration. Effective team building means more engaged and energised employees, which is good for team culture and, of course, the bottom line.
What we’ve discovered is that team building works best when it doesn’t feel like another day at the office. That’s where the “lame” word is most often applied. Plus, activities that obviously aim to teach leadership lessons or practical takeaways are not as powerful as many people think. What really works is spending time together, sharing an experience or working towards a common goal; all this allows bonding to happen more naturally and effectively.
With this in mind, our team building activities are as far removed from the office vibe as you can get. They’re different. By offering something out of left field, we bring people together in new ways. Some of our off the shelf activities include:
Remember the classic Top Town TV show? We use this Kiwi favourite as the inspiration for Top Team. It follows Top Town’s winning formula of using giant games and activities which are a lot of fun, all while promoting teamwork, communication, lateral thinking, and leadership. The games can be adapted for outdoors, indoors or even on sand.
One of our more popular activities which takes a team on a fun and engaging tour of the city. The tour visits key historical places, highlights and hidden gems in Christchurch, with activities and challenges along the way. This experience caters for 20 to 500 people, and can be tailored to include specific tasks, or locations and timeframes.
The indoor team challenge tests communication, leadership, lateral thinking and teamwork. Team members negotiate a range of giant activities and challenges which can be done in almost any indoor space and tailored to all needs and abilities.
We can deliver these off the shelf activities (and a few more as well) or create tailor made experiences. But it’s important that team-building isn’t restricted to a one-off activity that’s done, dusted and then forgotten.
It’s important to keep finding ways to keep the momentum up.
You need to create ongoing opportunities for people to connect and interact in meaningful ways, outside of regular meetings or presentations. We can help out here as well – and we promise you that none of the things we do will be lame.
